I’ve been thinking a lot about meditation and how it can affect your writing. They don’t seem at first glance to complement each other. They actually seem more to oppose each other. See, in order to be a good meditator you have to be able to look at your thoughts, but not get involved with them. A good writer, on the other hand, has to let those thoughts take him away. You have to get involved with them. You really have to chase and see what that idea is all about. You have to question were it’s coming from. You have to explore your head. Mindful mediation is the opposite of that. You have to quiet down as much as you can that constant mental chatter. The paradox though is that you end up at the same place doing both activities. Your minds feels clearer. You have realizations and feel contented. It’s like getting a mental colonic.
